Duckhams Yuasa Racing with Redline claimed a superb victory in the Porsche Carrera Cup GB's 350th race at the weekend(April 23/24), as Porsche GB Junior Driver Adam Smalley fought his way to the front of the field.
In an extremely close qualifying session, where the first 14 drivers were separated by less than one second, Adam missed out on a front row start by just 0.059s. A fantastic first qualifying of the season, Adam started from 3rd place on the grid.
As the lights went out on not only the 20th season of the Carrera Cup but also its 350th race, Adam started well, claiming second place on the opening lap of the race. Closing in on the leader ahead, he put pressure on and forced a mistake through the chicane, pulling alongside past the pits and completing the pass with an excellent move on the outside of Redgate, the first turn, before opening a gap and claiming the win.
For the reverse grid race later that afternoon and broadcast live on ITV4, Adam lined up 4th on the starting grid. Adam started well and used his confidence in the car - expertly prepared by Redline Racing - to put himself in contention for another podium, falling short as he crossed the line 1.5s behind third position.
An amazing debut for Adam in the Porsche Carrera Cup GB Championship leaves him joint on points at the top of the championship standings heading into the second round of the Championship at Brands Hatch on the 14/15 May.
"It was an amazing weekend, to win on my debut in the Porsche Carrera Cup GB Championship was a dream come true. I was confident in our ability after qualifying and managed to piece everything together in the first race, I had a good start and knew I had the pace to catch the leader. I applied pressure on him towards the end of the race and managed to force him into a mistake which gave me the opportunity to make a move for the lead. I'd like to thank everyone at Duckhams Yuasa Racing with Redline for a perfect start to the season and I'm already looking forward to Brands Hatch"
